BLACK & WHITE ON A RAINY AFTERNOON
May 30, 2009 by Neville · Leave a Comment
Wednesday afternoon I popped over to Avoca Beach to shoot the weather. I love changeable weather as it adds drama to a landscape image that is sometimes lacking in the super saturated blues and magentas, the flavour of the month amongst digital landscape photographers these day’s. So in a totally rebelious mood I shot this in colour and B&W, I like both versions, but as it’s raining let’s go grey.
Captured on a D3 with a 20mm F2.8 and 0.6 natural density filter, all attached to a Benbo tripod, exposure was 1/1 sec at f20, digital film speed was 100 iso and, my feet got wet as I was pretty close.

MY EXCUSE

Sorry for the lack of updates but I’m in the middle of a project that is taking it’s time and flexing my patience muscle. So here are two image’s I photographed Sunday down at Spoon Bay. Both captured with a D3, 24-70 f2.8 lens, a natural density 0.9 filter, just to hold the sky, mounted on a Benbo tripod.

SOMERSBY COLOUR

Yesterday I closed the gallery early to collect a couple of new prints from the framers and, then go off to shoot some new images, just for myself for a change. Here’s two of them I managed to capture without getting run over.
I’m in the process of teaching myself to use photoshop less, this will enable me to keep the quality of the original RAW file, without loosing more information from the digital file, thus enabling me to retain as much sharpness and detail in the print as is possible. As Photoshop degrades the image file each time you do something with it.

TUESDAY’S SESSION

I started the day with a few trophies and more or less ended photographing coral for Mark, my framer from Billabong Framing in Erina. He has started framing these lovely pieces of Coral and placing layered matt board around them. They look quite smart. Give him a call if your interested in having a look at them, 02 4367 8753.

ONE FOR CLAIRE

Yesterday was spent at, The Breakers Bridal Fair, talking to some great people. It was a really busy day and I was so glad to be part of it. So a big thank you to the organizers for a top day. One of my favorite people in the industry on the Coast is Claire of Bridesmaids Boutique, at the Gindurra Park Wedding & Event Centre. The image below is my sorry photo. I kept forgetting to do something for her. These three lovely ladies had their dresses supplied by Claire and let me tell you they looked fantastic.

MY FAVORITE PLACE

Welcome to Blaen-y-glyn, this small waterfall is in the Brecon Becons of South Wales, UK. It is my most favorite place in the whole wide world. I love the Glyn, as it holds so many memories, it’s where my dad learned to swim, my brother Glyn is named after it, we used to go camping there when we were kids and, generally it’s the place we played in, our back garden so to speak. This image was captured a few years ago on one of my trips back home. I used a Pentax 6X7 cm with 55mm lens and Tri-X Black & White film, mounted on a Benbo tripod.
Tomorrow I’m shooting more Trophies.

WINSTON & KAREN PART 2.
A lovely thank you to Karen and Winston for asking me to photograph the beginning of their new life together, I had a great day. Just to show you how great it was here are a few more images for you to look at.
On another note today is the anniversary of Michelle (wife) and myself, being in Australia 27 years today, 12 May 1982 we landed in Adelaide SA. After landing finding a motel, we thought what have we done? But we are still here.

WINSTON + KAREN = MARRIED. PART 1
Saturday was Winston and Karen’s day at the Gosford/Edogawa Commemorative Garden and, it was a most perfect day. You are going to have to wait for more images, but just as a teaser here are a few.
