Saturday after months of waiting I managed to finally get and photograph the lovely Josephine, who’s dad is from Fiji. I had asked her to bring along some traditional clothing because my inspiration for this portrait was going to be the painting’s of Paul Gauguin that he made while he was in Tahiti. I made the images in natural light but with the SB900 turned down 2 full stops fired off camera, just enough to light the eyes.

for those of you who are regular readers of this blog, you may have seen these two images before. but i’ve been trailing some new software to process my RAW images, in the quest to get the best out of some very expensive equipment. i always felt that there are quite a number of images in my files that just weren’t making the grade for me. Having cut my teeth on film (those were the days), i always felt digital had something lacking as far as quality was concerned. i knew it wasn’t my equipment so it had to be me or how i was processing the files. after putting myself through the ringer, i came up with knowledge it was the processing software that must be doing it. so i deliberately chose a few images and used different software on them. well i made my choice, now i have to spend time and learn what it can do, hence these two images below. many more to go through.
