THE ENTRANCE NSW

July 24, 2010 by Neville · Leave a Comment

I went for a walk with my camera yesterday afternoon at sunset, just up to The Entrance and came back with some really nice shots, here’s two of them. I would like to say thank you to the family who were there with their son paddling, for helping me out in creating the second shot. Both images were shot on the D3 @  400iso on the 24-70 mm f2.8, handheld in aperture priority, the light source was set to cloudy on the camera.

UK HERE I COME

Just picked up my tickets this afternoon for my trip home. I’m going to be doing a lot of walking and photography when I’m there, so you had better stay tuned to this blog because I will be uploading my days out as they happen, hopefully. If I can get internet access, as my mam and dad dont have a computer. I shall be leaving on the 21 August, so if anybody wants to have photography done speak to me now, please. If there are any photogs over there that want to use me as a second shooter on a wedding or want to set up a days workshop with me, then drop me a line so that we can talk about it, I would love to do something. I will be staying most of my time in Kenilworth, Midlands with a small amount of time in Carno  North Wales and a few days down in Pontypridd with my mother in-law, although I’m living in fear as she has promised me a clout with her stick, only kidding Pauline:) The image below was taken in the Elan Valley Mid Wales.

OH MY GOSH

What a week its been. It all started last Saturday when I had to do a shoot for Monterey Tourist Park, then it just kept going, a shoot for a bathroom fixtures company, then we had to move out of the galley by Wednesday, as that was the last day of our lease. I didn’t know I had so much stuff to move. Just to keep us going there was the sorting out of an office space for me at home, so that had to painted, lighting tracks to be put up, things to be taken into storage, things to be thrown away, invoices to be made out, wedding packages to be sent out. I’m not even finished yet. One of my bride’s has flown in from London so I will have to go and visit locations on Saturday, but that’s one thing I’m looking forward to, as it will get me out of this place for a while. I’m just glad there’s nothing booked until the following Saturday, just so that I can have a breather.

HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH A PASTOR

June 4, 2010 by Neville · Leave a Comment

For those of you who would like to know how I lit Murray in the image below with his chopper here’s a quick run down.

I wanted to create a more dramatic image, a little more grit, not to much he’s a Pastor remember. so I placed my main light behind Murray slightly to the left of him, you can see how it lights the side of the face, this will etch him out from the background. Another light was placed to the right of the camera to fill in the right eye, then another stronger light placed to the cameras left to brighten up his left side face and make the chrome shine. Simple, no fuss all done within minute’s. Give it a go, if you dont have more than one light use reflector boards, the effect wont be as strong but you will get the idea. Processing was done with Capture NX then post production was done in Photoshop.

Popped up to church yesterday to photograph my Pastor, Murray, with his new chopper bike. Who says church is boring.

LETS GET CREATIVE

April 17, 2010 by Neville · Leave a Comment

After I’ve finished a shoot for a client I like to get a little creative just for myself. Below are two images from the Nonnaweena fashion show to which I have applied my own interpretive view. One piece of equipment I cannot go on a shoot without, especially on a job like this is my hand held Minolta light meter. These two images would have been completely different with the cameras light meter adjusting everything to an average tone. In the case of the bride coming up the steps, she would have been almost in silhouette, as the cameras light meter would be reading the bright sky behind her, but by taking an incident reading, that is reading the amount of light falling onto the subject, rather than the amount of light being reflected, I get all the detail in the dress and a lovely soft skin tone.

GETTING CREATIVE

April 7, 2010 by Neville · Leave a Comment

I’ve been pushing myself lately while out shooting to see if I can use just one lens,  the 70-200mm 2.8 set to 200mm @ f2.8, I have just finished this one after a busy day shooting over 200 trophies and finishing a wedding album, I needed to be creative just for me. Just thought I would show it off.
